Under technical supervision, conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical and/or microbiological analyses

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform sample testing following documented procedures in order to analyze organic or inorganic compounds to determine chemical or physical properties, composition, structure, relationships or reactions using chromatography, spectroscopy or spectrophotometry techniques
  • Perform microbiological sample testing following documented procedures to determine presence/absence of bacteria, or other microorganisms
  • Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order
  • Prepare test solutions, compounds or reagents for conducting tests
  • Make interpretations of data from microbiological plates
  • Perform review of data entered into Laboratory Information Management System
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with standards or to suggest improvements as needed
  • Confer with others to interpret test results
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside the laboratory and people outside the laboratory including customers, regulatory staff and corporate staff

  • Work with Technical Services to improve current methods
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or related science required
  • 1-3 years work-related analytical chemistry experience required
  • Experience with HPLC-UV, HS-GC-FID, ICP-MS preferred
  • GMP/FDA experience preferred

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Knowledge of elementary principles of microbiology and chemistry
  • Knowledge of basic clinical laboratory skills
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment
  • Ability to use computers and computer software programs and systems and standard office equipment such as phones, photocopiers and fax machines
