Position: Certified Medical Assistant or LPN 8363

Responsible for putting patients in exam rooms and obtaining vitals, a history, and have the room set up for the physician. A Medical Assistant must know how to schedule an appointment into the computer. You will be responsible for scheduling tests ordered by the physician and pre-certing procedures with the patient’s insurance company. You must be familiar with medical necessity and checking E-Care for insurance eligibility.

Medical Assistants will work closely with the RN or LPN in answering telephones, checking messages, cleaning up exam rooms, draw blood for laboratory test and be familiar with CLIA wave testing. Medical Assistants should be familiar with charting, filing, and knowing HIPAA guidelines. A Medical Assistant will also be trained to work at the front office if needed. The responsibility includes receiving patients at the front desk and interviewing the patient for correct demographics and insurance information for registration.

You will enter all information into the computer system and make sure an insurance card and demographics are updated on the patient’s chart. Schedule appointments, review A/R balance in the billing system and post to the patient’s super-bill prior to patient appointment. Attach super-bill with balance due and co-payment information posted. Collect co-payments or any other money owed on previous balances the patient would like to pay.

Make daily deposits, file charts, and copy medical records that are requested from other providers. You will also be responsible for a reminder call to the patient on their upcoming appointment. Run the “Unverified Encounters List” at the end of the shift and complete all unverified encounters before you leave. You are responsible for completing registrations without encounters in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

High School graduate or GED equivalent, Certified Medical Assistant or Current State of Illinois licensed LPN. Requires medical terminology, ICD-9, CPT, Medicare regulations, and insurance billing guidelines are helpful. Requires typing and computer skills. Medical necessity and insurance eligibility is helpful. Good interpersonal skills a must. Phlebotomy experience preferred. You must be familiar with medical necessity and checking for insurance eligibility.

Medical Assistants should be familiar with charting, filing, and knowing HIPAA guidelines.
