  • 1. Hardware installation and maintenance
    Rack and stack servers, storage arrays, network switches, PDUs, and appliances.
  • Install and replace components: disks, DIMMs, CPUs, NICs, PSUs, fans, RAID cards.
  • Perform RMA swaps and confirm hardware health via vendor tools/BIOS/ILO/iDRAC.
  • Label and document hardware locations (rack, U, asset tags, serials).
  • 2. Cabling and physical layer
    Install and manage copper and fiber cabling (Cat6, OM3/OM4, etc.).
  • Ensure proper routing, dressing, and labeling to meet standards and prevent airflow issues.
  • Test and certify cables using cable testers/OTDR, fix bad pairs or connectors.
  • Patch network and storage connections according to port maps and diagrams.
  • 3. Networking at the rack level
    Patch servers into top?of?rack or end?of?row switches per design.
  • Verify link status, speed, and redundancy (LACP, dual-homing).
  • Work with network engineers to troubleshoot physical link issues (light levels, transceivers, bad ports).
  • 7. Access control and media handling
    Enforce access controls: escort visitors, follow change windows and work approvals.
  • 8. Documentation and asset management
    Maintain rack elevation diagrams, cabling maps, and port assignments.
  • Record work done in tickets/work orders with clear notes and timestamps.
  • 9. Change management and maintenance windows
    Prepare and execute changes during scheduled maintenance windows (hardware swaps, migrations, re?cabling).
  • Follow runbooks and rollback plans; capture before/after states.
  • 10. Remote hands / smart hands support
    Act as on?site hands for remote engineers: power cycling, screen reads, console access.
  • Connect KVMs, crash carts, and consoles as requested.
  • Collect photos, serials, and indicators for offsite teams to analyze.
