Position SummaryAre you tired of losing business to Group Captives? As an Underwriter within Arch Alternative Markets, this position is responsible for the technical underwriting, account management and client management of our casualty group captive programs. We have been growing steadily 20% per year with no shortage of opportunities. We exceeded $1 Billion of GWP and are looking for more team members.
Responsibilitiesand Accountabilities
- Technical Underwriting – solicits and reviews new and renewal account information to evaluate risk. Identifies exposures, hazards, assesses insurance and financial risk to structure captive programs. Underwrites, prices and prepares proposals. Prepares program binders and presents to captive manager/producer or prospective insured.
- Account Management – quarterbacks pre and post bind activities, policy production, compliance, audits, adjustments, legal agreements, TPA coordination. Manages renewal and retention, conduct mid-term account reviews.
- Client Management – develops relationships with producers and insureds, discusses account issues, uncovers needs, develops strategic plan, engages team members, generates qualified submissions.
- Administrative – responsible for underwriting and policy documentation in compliance with Arch's internal audit process. Completes ad hoc projects as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Automobile coverage forms and endorsements for capture programs.
- Understanding of loss-sensitive, excess & surplus lines programs.
- Understanding of captive programs desirable (products, pricing, expensing, actuarial loss projecting, retention, aggregate setting, ALAE, credit risk).
- Exposure identification and analysis.
- Cross-functional knowledge of claims, risk control, audit, premium accounting, finance, legal; regulatory and compliance knowledge.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training required.
- CPCU or other similar designation a plus.
- Three (3) to Five (5) years underwriting experience and/or experience in loss-sensitive, excess & surplus, or captive markets.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
$125,000 - $145,000/year + 10% target bonus (incentive eligible). Total compensation includes base, short & long-term incentives and may vary by location, scope, qualifications and business needs.
