GENERAL SUMMARY

The Development Manager is responsible for generating philanthropic and other socially motivated events, funding, and marketing opportunities to support HSMC programs and services. Working closely with the Shelter Director, Board of Directors, and fundraising chairs, the Development Manager will help execute a comprehensive events strategy to develop and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships between individual, corporate, foundation, institutional and major donors. The Development Manager will work to increase public awareness of the organization in the community by assisting with implementing and strengthening a consistent strategic marketing plan and messaging and branding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Highly computer proficient and able to learn shelter software
  • Mid-level experience with event management/planning
  • Mid-level experience with designing marketing materials and advertising
  • Disciplined in branding standards, specifically related to usage of logos, color schemes and graphics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized, motivated and detail-oriented
  • Some nights & weekend availability, generally one weekend per month and 1 – 2 weeknights per month

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Office/Excel OR Google Suite
  • Word Press based websites and web design
  • Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop (preferred but not required)
  • Social Media account management and metrics
  • CRM software and/or Donor Database software
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES EVENTS
  • Oversee/manage all HSMC fundraising events, supporting committee chairs, staff and Board of Directors with vendors, donors, sponsors, ticket sales, prizes/raffles, event organization, timelines, schedules & day of show set up and breakdown
  • Create and Monitor event budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness and provide detailed financial reports to the Shelter Director and Board of Directors
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and legal requirements.
  • Promote events through social media, email campaigns, and other channels.
  • Create event materials, such as invitations, programs, and signage.
DONORS
  • Manage CRM software data, Constant Contact and Give Smart, of current and future donors.
  • Manage portfolio of major donor prospects, reporting status updates to the Shelter Director and Board of Directors.
  • Perform research and identification of additional individual, foundation, corporate and governmental funding opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Shelter Director and Board of Directors to expand and leverage their fundraising abilities, particularly by training and working with them to identify and cultivate new and continuing fundraising relationships.
MARKETING
  • Manage an engaging website and strategic social media presence by writing content and managing the website to reflect current activities of the organization.
  • Respond to messages and comments across social media
  • Ensure strategic daily communication is scheduled on social media
  • Manage marketing communications; email, public relations
  • Design, format, and prepare branding materials for fundraising and community events.
GRANTS
  • Analyze and understand agency needs to align with granting agency funding priorities.
  • Prepare grant documentation, including the ability to computerize statistical information and graphics.
  • Manage the lifecycle of multiple funding opportunities for grants simultaneously, including post award accountabilities for foundations, corporate sources, and federal/state/local government grants.
