Position Highlights- Position:
Public Safety Officer - Location:
Edward Hospital – Naperville, IL - Full Time – 40 hours
- Hours:
Nights – 6pm – 6am - Days:
Wednesday – Saturday
- Under general supervision, provide unarmed uniformed security/safety services to support the department’s mission to protect persons and property.
- Patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in motorized vehicle according to schedule and investigate unusual occurrences.
- Report incidents or potential loss of hospital, employee, patient or visitor property; involve police and assist during investigations if necessary.
- Respond to all service calls in a timely, safe, professional and courteous manner.
- Welcome customers, provide directions to patients and visitors, and escort individuals to their destinations when possible.
- Direct vehicle traffic within hospital facilities, clear loading docks and ambulance zones of unauthorized vehicles, issue parking citations, and maintain records.
- Physically restrain unruly patients or visitors and individuals posing threats; involve police and provide assistance or court testimony when needed.
- Administer control systems to protect patient and employee valuables, monitor lost and found items.
- Check that doors, windows, equipment, alarms, fire extinguishers are secured and functional; notify personnel of any issues.
- Investigate and document thefts, accidents and other incidents; prepare accurate and complete documentation.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year experience in a customer-focused service-based organization
Education and Experience
- Minimum of two years experience in law enforcement, military or private security
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention and fire/security technology
- Valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card within 90 days of start date
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within 90 days of start date
- Valid driver’s license; if using personal vehicle, maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and provide evidence if requested
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within six months of hire
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Healthcare Security Officer training certification within twelve months of start date
