Locate Technician

Job Description

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone, electric, cable television, gas, fiber optic, water, and sewer lines. The role ensures compliance with client and state requirements, and involves observing, locating, marking and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods. Technicians may work independently or in a team under a supervisor. The position requires focus, skill, and the use of specialized machinery and tools.

• Perform locates of underground facilities using transmitters and other equipment.
• Work across all terrain types, construction zones, residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all weather conditions.
• Interpret job order tickets, blueprints and maps to route and execute tasks efficiently.
• Conduct primary, emergency and on‑call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as needed to meet customer needs.
• Communicate professionally with customers, co‑employees, contractors and management to maintain a damage‑free environment.
• Use the company vehicle, laptop and smartphone and operate all required personal protective equipment.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs and walk/stand for extended periods.
• Problem‑solving and strong communication skills.
• Experience with utility locating preferred (1 year).
• Pass a background screening with no violations within the last 5 years.
• Pass a DOT drug test.

• 10‑hour shift, Monday through Friday.
• On‑call duties and weekend work as needed.
• Work on the road using company vehicle.
