Overview
Lineal’s Internal Developer Platform (IDP) provides the tools, services, and frameworks that enable our product teams to build, deploy, and operate software efficiently and reliably.
The IDP abstracts the complexity of our hybrid infrastructure — spanning on-premise deployments and regional Kubernetes clusters — while standardizing observability, CI/CD, and deployment practices across teams. Our goal is to reduce friction, improve consistency, and accelerate delivery across Lineal’s global engineering organization.
We value engineers who approach problems with a systems mindset — preferring to understand, automate, and script solutions at the infrastructure level rather than relying on manual or GUI-driven processes.
Role Summary
Lineal is seeking a mid-to-senior Platform Engineer to act as the primary engineer on our growing platform team. You will help design, build, and evolve Lineal’s Internal Developer Platform to provide a seamless developer experience and improve the overall efficiency of our product development operation.
In this role, you will:
- Accelerate the migration of our applications to Kubernetes while ensuring interoperability across our hybrid environments.
- Build self-service capabilities and frameworks that help teams deploy, monitor, and scale their applications independently.
- Implement best practices for Kubernetes operations, observability, and automation.
- Help transform our platform from tribal knowledge into a consistent, product-like experience for our engineers.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on developer enablement
, reliability
, and scalability
. You will collaborate closely with the Platform Lead, system architect, and product engineering teams to drive platform adoption and deliver measurable outcomes.
This role favors engineers who are comfortable operating close to the command line — using CLI tools and scripting to diagnose, automate, and optimize Kubernetes-based systems. Comfort with Bash and scripting in Unix-like environments is essential, as many of our workflows and debugging tools live outside traditional GUIs.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain Kubernetes-first deployment patterns
, CI/CD pipelines, and service templates. - Develop self-service tooling that allows developers to provision, deploy, and monitor their services independently.
- Drive adoption of observability best practices
, ensuring teams can measure system health and performance. - Partner with scrum teams to migrate remaining on-premise services into Kubernetes
, ensuring reliable hybrid operations. - Lead automation efforts that simplify development, testing, and deployment workflows.
- Leverage CLI tools and scripting (Bash, kubectl, Helm, etc.) to automate operations, troubleshoot runtime issues, and improve developer workflows.
- Improve secrets management, RBAC, and security baselines
, ensuring consistent, secure deployments. - Collaborate with developers to define platform APIs, SDKs, and reusable libraries that standardize how services interact with the platform.
- Maintain documentation and onboarding materials to reduce time-to-productivity for new developers.
- Treat the platform as a product
: gather feedback from internal users, prioritize improvements, and measure adoption. - Contribute to improving key platform KPIs such as system availability, deployment time, and defect resolution turnaround.
- 5–10 years of professional engineering experience delivering software products in an Agile environment.
- At least 2 years of experience deploying and operating services in a Kubernetes-centric environment
. - Experience designing or operating multi-tenant Kubernetes environments
, including namespace isolation and resource governance. - Strong knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, containerd) and Git Ops workflows (ArgoCD, Flux, etc.).
- Solid experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using modern automation tooling.
- Proficiency with command-line interfaces and shell scripting (Bash, sh, or similar) to automate and troubleshoot within Unix-like environments.
- Familiarity with Lineal’s core technology stack
: C#, SQL Server, Python, Redis, RabbitMQ
. - Experience building…
