The HPE Quantum team at HPE Labs is developing new approaches for quantum computing, including integration with high performance computing. We are solving research problems and creating structures for HPE’s business offerings in this area. As a Senior Research Engineer with a focus on Quantum Error Correction (QEC), you will be at the forefront of our efforts to bring quantum computing from a dream to a useful reality.
You will bring your knowledge of QEC and experience developing related tools to the team to provide expert assistance in developing and extending quantum circuit compilation and simulation elements that relate to QEC. You’ll perform cutting-edge research in QEC, influence HPC-QC architectural decisions, and publish and present your findings. You will also assist with new software development projects; extend open source software;
improve quantum circuit compilation and simulation; demonstrate workflow strategies for applications to use to combine high performance and quantum computing; participate in standardization of key interfaces; and demonstrate our technologies. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, researchers, and product managers. - Research
- Evaluate quantum error correction strategies to find those that have the best ability to make it possible to run applications on quantum hardware
- Develop improvements to quantum error correction strategies, algorithms, and software
- Contribute to QC-HPC architecture decisions with detailed knowledge of quantum error correction strategies
- Create and demonstrate novel quantum error correction components and describe these in publications and presentations
- Software Development
- Develop software components to handle the QEC details in quantum circuit compilation, emulation/simulation, and resource estimation
- Develop or integrate realtime decoder technologies into HPE’s HPC-QC software stack
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics with a strong preference for quantum computing, computational science, or ML/AI expertise.
- 10 or more years of programming experience
- 1 or more years of experience implementing software for quantum error correction (resource estimation, real-time decoding, circuit compilation)
- Advanced programming skills in low-level languages such as C, C++, or Rust
- Advanced programming skills in Python
- Experience contributing to large software projects and creating new software efforts
- Experience using Linux command line tools
- Experience with library API design
- Experience creating or extending quantum computing tools (e.g., Qiskit, CUDA-Q, Tensor Flow Quantum, Pennylane)
- Deep understanding of Quantum Computing and skills in understanding and optimizing circuits
- Deep understanding of Quantum Error Correction codes including circuit compilation and decoding aspects
- Strong mathematical background, with excellent skills in areas such as statistics, probability, linear algebra
- Creative and analytical thinking abilities, with a passion for solving complex problems
