Role Description The Freight Dispatcher role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Chicago Area. This role is responsible for coordinating daily freight movements, assigning loads to drivers, and optimizing routes to meet delivery schedules and service expectations. The Freight Dispatcher monitors shipment status, communicates proactively with drivers and customers, and resolves delays or issues in real time. The role includes entering and updating load information in dispatch systems, confirming documentation accuracy, and ensuring compliance with safety and transportation regulations.
The Freight Dispatcher collaborates with operations, customer service, and management to maintain efficient workflows and consistent, high-quality service.
Qualifications
- Experience with freight dispatching or transportation coordination, including routing, load planning, and schedule management.
- Proficiency with dispatch software, transportation management systems (TMS), and basic computer tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets).
- Strong communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with drivers, clients, and internal teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize under time pressure, and make sound decisions to resolve operational issues.
- Understanding of trucking operations, DOT regulations, and safety standards is highly beneficial.
- Attention to detail for accurate data entry, documentation, and record-keeping.
- Willingness to work on-site in the Greater Chicago Area and maintain reliable availability for full-time shifts.
- Previous experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required, post-secondary education in a related field is a plus.
