Job Description
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk accurately processes incoming and outgoing shipments, maintains detailed shipping records, and ensures materials move efficiently between the shipping area, storage, and production. This role combines hands-on warehouse work with the use of shipping software and computer systems to support smooth logistics operations and excellent internal and external customer service.

Shipping & Receiving Clerk
- Keep accurate records of all incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Prepare items for shipment, including packing, labeling, and documentation.
- Monitor all incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper condition of shipments.
- Verify the accuracy of shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other shipping-related records.
- Determine shipping priorities and appropriate shipping methods to meet shipping and receiving schedules, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and company standards.
- Inspect material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, for defects and notify maintenance personnel or external service providers for repair as needed.
- Direct the movement of shipments from the shipping and receiving area to storage and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
- Compile records of unfilled orders and accurately record weight and shipping charges.
- Prepare required department records and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Consult with management to clarify department priorities, identify problems, and suggest changes for improvement.
- Recommend measures to improve productivity, equipment performance, and quality of service, including suggestions for changes in working conditions.
- Provide customer service-oriented support to internal departments and external partners related to shipping and receiving activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall warehouse and logistics operations.
- Proven ability to perform shipping and receiving functions in a warehouse or similar environment.
- Hands-on experience using shipping software or shipping entry systems to process orders and shipments.
- Strong attention to detail for verifying shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, and orders.
- Computer literacy, including the ability to use basic office and shipping-related software.
- Ability to operate a pallet jack safely and efficiently.
- Capability to stand for long periods of time and to bend, kneel, and lift cumbersome and/or heavy items as required by warehouse activities.
- Customer service-oriented approach when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Thorough technical understanding of the shipping and receiving functional discipline, supported by relevant training or education.
- Relevant shipping, receiving, or warehouse experience preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a warehouse or distribution environment handling inventory and shipments.
- Familiarity with inventory processes and maintaining accurate stock records.
- Ability to prioritize workload and determine shipping priorities to meet strict schedules.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify process issues and suggest improvements.
- Effective communication skills to consult with management and collaborate with team members.
- Comfort working with material handling equipment and coordinating movement of goods between departments.
- Advanced training or education related to logistics, warehousing, or a technical discipline is beneficial.
