Job Description & How to Apply Below

Some people manage projects from a desk.

Some people lead crews from the middle of the mud, chaos, equipment noise, and "well... that wasn't on the plans."

We're looking for the second kind.

NIX Construction in Ogden, Utah is hiring a Foreman 2 to lead underground utility and heavy civil construction crews in the field. This role is for someone who knows how to run a job safely, keep projects moving, communicate with the team, and still jump in when the work needs to get done.

You’ll lead crews of operators, welders, and laborers while working closely with Project Managers to keep projects on schedule, on budget, and running safely. Around here, safety is not a poster on the wall - it's how we operate.

If you can lead a crew, solve problems under pressure, and keep things moving when conditions get rough, keep reading.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead and work alongside crews of Heavy Equipment Operators, Welders, and Laborers
  • Coordinate daily field operations and jobsite activities
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and technical drawings
  • Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and toolbox talks
  • Communicate with Project Managers, inspectors, subcontractors, and crews
  • Oversee equipment usage, maintenance, and jobsite organization
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently
  • Help mentor and develop crew members through coaching and leadership
  • Handle real-world field problems without melting down when the plans inevitably change
What We're Looking For

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Lead by example instead of from the truck cab with the AC running
  • Know how to keep crews accountable while still earning respect
  • Can read plans and understand underground construction methods
  • Understand line and grade
  • Communicate clearly with crews, leadership, inspectors, and subcontractors
  • Believe safety is part of the job - not something you fake during audits
  • Stay organized and can handle documentation like JHAs, time sheets, and field reports
  • Have grit, common sense, and a "figure it out" mentality
Required Qualifications
  • Class A CDL
  • Minimum 3G Welder Certification
  • Experience supervising underground construction crews
  • Demonstrated experience with line and grade
  • Ability to safely supervise shoring installations up to 15 feet deep in wet conditions
  • Experience with excavator pit construction
  • Working knowledge of construction safety standards and underground utility work
  • Ability to complete field documentation and administrative duties accurately
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
Bonus Points If You Have
  • Experience with grout pumps
  • Experience with Pilot Tube Microtunneler (GBM) or Caisson Drill work
  • Previous heavy civil or underground utility construction experience
  • Leadership or management training/certifications
  • The ability to stay calm when everyone else is losing their mind over a broken pipe or surprise utility line
What the Work Is Like
  • Outdoor work in all kinds of weather
  • Physically demanding, hands-on construction work
  • Fast-paced job sites where priorities can shift quickly
  • Long days occasionally happen - construction likes to keep things interesting
  • Team-oriented environment where communication matters
Physical Requirements
  • Lift and carry 50–100 pounds
  • Climb ladders, trenches, and equipment
  • Stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and work in uneven terrain
  • Work in heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, dust, and mud
  • Safely operate around heavy equipment and active construction zones

We value:
