Smooth Stone Construction is hiring a Civil Construction Estimator for its South Ogden, Utah team. Smooth Stone is a statewide civil and heavy civil construction firm specializing in design-build grading and excavation, water, sewer, and storm infrastructure for residential and commercial developments, municipal projects, and highway work.

This role is focused on horizontal and civil estimating. The estimator will prepare competitive, accurate bids for mass grading, storm drain, sanitary sewer, water main, roadway and highway improvements, private development infrastructure, and public municipal, county, and UDOT projects.

The role covers the full estimating lifecycle: quantity takeoffs from civil plans, reviewing specifications and geotechnical reports for scope and risk, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes, developing unit pricing, tracking public bid lettings, attending pre-bid meetings and site walks, and handing off cleanly to project managers and field superintendents.

This is an onsite role based in South Ogden, UT. Compensation is $110,000 to $130,000 per year depending on experience, plus either a $1,200 monthly vehicle allowance or a company truck.

Proven experience estimating horizontal or civil construction, including grading, excavation, underground utilities, municipal infrastructure, highway work, or related site work.

Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, cross-sections, specifications, and geotechnical reports.

Strong understanding of earthwork quantities, utility installation methods, site development sequencing, and construction cost drivers.

Experience preparing complete bids, developing unit pricing, and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes.

Ability to track public bid lettings and respond to municipal, county, UDOT, or private development RFPs.

Strong math, analytical, organizational, written communication, and verbal communication skills.

Experience with public bid processes is preferred.

Experience with estimating or takeoff software such as Agtek, HCSS Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, or similar tools is preferred.

Candidates with only vertical residential or commercial building estimating experience are not a fit for this role.

Compensation: $110,000-$130,000 per year, based on experience.
