Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Department of Education Leadership, Management and Policy, within the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Higher Education (tenure-track), beginning August 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong presence on our South Orange, NJ residential campus while engaging in an array of high-impact activities with students that include teaching, advisement, mentoring, and academic program development.
The position entails an 18-credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters (i.e., 3 courses per semester), commensurate with Department needs. Seton Hall University is a Carnegie R2 institution, and tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain a comprehensive and commensurate research agenda with active participation in the pursuit of grants and corporate/foundation partnerships.
The ideal candidate ought to have a demonstrated commitment to educational and scholarly excellence, a record of, or clear potential for, effective teaching and published research, and a commitment to collegiality, shared governance, and the wellbeing of students. The Department especially encourages applications from scholars with expertise in quantitative research, broadly interpreted. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the University's Mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Dedication to research, teaching, and service.
* Establish and maintain a significant research agenda commensurate with an R2 University, including the pursuit of external funding.
* Teaching load of graduate courses (18 credits per academic year) in areas such as, but not limited to, assessment and evaluation, quantitative research methods, student affairs, finance, policy, organization and governance, and leadership.
* Advise graduate students and mentor doctoral student dissertations. In some circumstances, the mentorship of a sufficient number of doctoral dissertations in a given academic semester may function as the equivalent of a 3-credit course. Faculty pursuing significant research projects are also able and encouraged to apply to a Provost-funded scholarly course release program.
* Provide service to the Department, College, University, and professional community. Key department tasks include graduate student recruitment, advisement, and support, curriculum development and program review, and committee work.
* A commitment to the University's Mission.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in and beyond the field.
