The Psychology Department at Seton Hall University seeks an adjunct instructor to teach an in-person course in Psychopharmacology starting January 2026. This 3000-level course is required for students in our BS in Cognitive Neuroscience and is a potential elective for Psychology majors.

Course Description and Learning Objectives

A comprehensive examination of the mechanisms by which drugs interact with the brain and behavior, with emphasis on the role of neurotransmitter systems.

  • Describe the field of psychopharmacology and its relation to other subfields within psychology and neuroscience.
  • Explain how pharmacokinetic factors interact to determine drug bioavailability.
  • Identify the main classes of abused drugs, describe their mechanisms of action and their behavioral effects.
  • Identify the major classes of drugs used in the treatment of major psychiatric and neurological disorders, describe their mechanisms of action and their behavioral effects.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach one section of an in-person course in Psychopharmacology. The course will be scheduled once a week for 2.5 hours in the evening on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
  • The class will be capped at 25‑30 students and run from January 14, 2026, to the end of finals week.
  • Participate in the department’s faculty mentoring program and observe full‑time faculty courses.
Required Qualifications

A master's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a closely related field plus relevant graduate coursework in psychopharmacology.

Desired Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field strongly preferred.
  • Prior university teaching experience.
Salary and Compensation

Minimum pay is $1,200 per credit for those without a terminal degree and $1,300 per credit for those with a terminal degree.
