Description
Leidos is seeking a Desktop Field Technician who is motivated by variety, enjoys hands‑on technical work, and is interested in supporting information technology initiatives for our Utility Technologies Solutions team. In this role, you will support workstation hardware replacement and deployment activities across multiple client office locations. You will work closely with IT teams, local site contacts, and end users to ensure new equipment is installed, configured, and ready for use while adhering to Leidos' Mission, Vision, and Values.
The Desktop Field Technician will be responsible for the hands‑on replacement and deployment of computers, monitors, docking stations, peripherals, and related equipment at company office locations. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and a commitment to maintaining clean and professional work spaces. The successful candidate will take pride in properly routing, securing, labeling, and organizing cables and equipment as part of each workstation installation.
This role involves regular travel between office locations, hands‑on installation and troubleshooting, and following established IT standards and procedures. The technician will work as part of a collaborative IT team and will elevate more complex technical issues to senior team members as needed.
LocationThis position is based in South Plainfield, New Jersey, with a minimum of three days per week onsite. Qualified candidates must reside within a commutable distance and be able to travel to additional company sites for workstation hardware replacements and deployments, primarily in Newark, Secaucus, Clifton, Somerset, and Lawrenceville, NJ, as well as other nearby locations as needed.
PayThe position pays an hourly rate of $30 - $33.50/hour
Responsibilities- Install, replace, connect, and configure computers, monitors, docking stations, peripherals, and related equipment.
- Perform workstation hardware replacements and upgrades at multiple office locations.
- Properly route, secure, label, and organize network and power cables, including use of zip ties and other cable‑management methods.
- Ensure workstations are properly connected to power and the network and functioning as expected.
- Add and remove workstations from the Windows Active Directory domain.
- Verify new workstations are reporting properly to SCCM and receiving required software and patches.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of workstation hardware, peripherals, cabling, and connectivity.
- Assist with inventory activities, including receiving hardware shipments, tracking equipment, and documenting serial numbers.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, equipment, and completed work through IT ticketing systems.
- Coordinate with other IT teams and escalated more complex issues when needed.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow established IT and safety procedures.
- Communicate professionally with end users and site contacts throughout installation activities.
- High School diploma or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional technical training equivalent to a technical associate's degree and 2- 4 years of relevant experience
