Generac Home is hiring for a Product Engineer II. In this role you will be responsible for gaining a deep technical understanding of Generac Home Solar and Storage products and providing a critical interface between internal R&D/engineering and product support teams. The Product Engineer will take an ownership role in understanding, recreating, and performing root cause analysis of field issues and will work with the design engineering teams to develop, specify, and test product improvements targeted at addressing field quality issues.
The Product Engineer will provide key insights to help define new features and products and play a key role in creating internal and external product documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Understand product and system-level interactions (electrical/firmware/mechanical) to facilitate diagnosis of issues and creation of test scenarios
- Investigate field failures of returned products through system-level testing and circuit board debugging
- Establish lab test setups to replicate field issues; use electronic test and measurement equipment to quantify, diagnose and document root causes
- Support hardware and firmware development teams in creating solutions to field issues and in defining new product features and requirements
- Participate in validation/verification testing efforts around design changes and new features/products
- Collect, process and analyze fleet data to better understand the scope of field issues
- Mentor and train less experienced engineers and other field service personnel
- Create and review both internal and external product documentation, including: specifications and datasheets, diagnostic manuals and flow-charts, one-line diagrams and schematics
- Serve as a path of escalation for technical support and applications engineers
- Support field troubleshooting efforts remotely
- Occasionally perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related degree
- 3 years relevant work experience
- Demonstrated data analysis skills
- Experience working in a functioning lab
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hands on experience working with electrical lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, etc.
- Solid understanding of electrical and electronics concepts
- Experience programming in Python, MATLAB, C/C++ or similar languages
- Experience processing, analyzing and presenting large data sets
- Knowledge of residential electrical systems and/or solar installations
- Experience with root cause analysis and printed circuit board debugging
- Experience supporting and mentoring entry-level engineers
- Ability to understand both electronics hardware, embedded firmware and complex system interactions
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to analyze, summarize and present complex data
- Comfortable adapting to dynamic needs and autonomously prioritizing work efforts
Generac is committed to fair and equity compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in S. Portland Maine is $84,500 - $105,650. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location.
This role is eligible for variable compensation, including short-term incentives.

Office Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
