Position Title: Manufacturing Engineer II

Department: Pumps – 69099 Employee Type: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Engineering Pay Grade: 9

Position Summary:

Responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining efficient production processes by systematically eliminating waste, improving quality, and reducing lead times. Plans and executes a world-class manufacturing and assembly process through careful evaluation of the requirements for safety, quality, delivery, product use, and cost-analysis. Acts as an interface between product development / design and the production shop team, uses data-driven continuous improvement methodologies to create an efficient and sustainable operation.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide input at the development stage to lay out the best process and equipment for assembly and test of products.
  • Take ownership of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Lean principals when interacting with suppliers and internal teams
  • Design, create detailed BOMs, and build equipment according to project plans
  • Interface with electromechanical and automation systems; AB PLCs, NI Labview, etc.
  • Identify equipment needs, research and select vendors, request funds, and complete documents required for purchase of capital equipment
  • Develop, investigate, test, and document equipment standardized work to establish best-practices and for training purposes
  • Identify production bottlenecks, perform line balancing, and conduct time studies to minimize cycle times
  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and 5S initiatives across the facility.
  • Redesign work center layouts and cellular manufacturing setups to minimize material travel and optimize space
  • Develop, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual management tools
  • Lead cross-functional teams in structured problem-solving (e.g., A3, 5-Whys, Ishikawa diagrams) to resolve quality issues or relieve bottlenecks
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems, assist with proper maintenance
  • Create or Modify Detailed Drawings using established industry formats
  • Perform all other incidental and related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Electrical) from an ABET (or equiv.) accredited institution
  • Demonstrated (formally or informally) mechanical aptitude
  • 3 - 5 years of related experience preferred

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness to learn
  • Proficient with CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude; desire to work in a "hands-on" environment
  • Ability to learn quickly, open to new ideas
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to recognize feasibility of designs
  • Ability to interpret blueprints
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Design of experiments (DOE) knowledge helpful
  • Basic computer skills: MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or individual environment
  • Effective interaction with employees at all levels of organization
  • Demonstrate independent initiative
  • Receptive and supportive of change

Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):

  • Occasional travel for meetings, training, or equipment validation (estimated between 4 to 8 times per year)
  • Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects
