POSITION SUMMARY
The Promise Teen Tech Center is an innovative space where teens ages 11-19 get hands‑on experience using the latest technology to bring their artistic dreams to reality. Teens can unleash their creative juices in the recording and editing studio, bring designs to life using the 3‑D printer or laser cutter, learn the latest computer design software, and much more. The Promise Teen Tech Center offers a place for teens to expand their skills and gain a competitive edge as they venture out into the workforce.
Under the direction of the Promise Program Deputy Director, the Center Coordinator manages the entire operation of the center’s out‑of‑school time program. The Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and coordination of program and staff while ensuring high‑quality programming and interaction with youth and their families.
1. Center Management and Program Delivery
- As part of a city‑wide system of After school, plan and implement high‑quality programming using Promise Planning Procedures and The Clubhouse Network Learning Model. Lead activities and supervise small and large groups of youth engaged in project‑based learning.
- Outreach to young people, parents/caregivers, educators, and community leaders to recruit teens who live, work, worship, or attend school in the City of South Salt Lake.
- Ensure safety and order of youth, participants, staff, and volunteers by maintaining cleanliness of program spaces, using proper check‑in and check‑out procedures, etc.
- Address behavior needs in the Teen Tech Center using appropriate behavior management techniques, problem‑solving skills, and functional understanding of youth development and trauma‑informed care.
- Develop partnerships with other City departments, schools, and community organizations to bring resources and opportunities into the Teen Tech Center.
- Coordinate with the Family and Community Engagement team to plan events, conduct home visits as necessary, and coordinate community outreach.
- Plan and implement summer camps, interim programs, and special activities collaboratively with other Promise SSL Coordinators.
- Assure alignment of program curriculums and activities with overall Promise goals and grant requirements.
- Provide effective orientation, supervision, and ongoing training and monitoring for staff and volunteer mentors in order to build applicable skills, to develop meaningful and appropriate relationships between adult mentors and youth, and to ensure alignment with program goals.
- Attend all appropriate meetings for the position as assigned. These include Promise’s Committee Meetings, Leadership meetings, and ongoing meetings with local and national partners.
- Travel to professional conferences and meetings required by funding partners.
- Participate in training and self‑directed learning in order to develop skills for using technology in the Teen Tech Center including professional video and photo equipment, music recording tools, graphic design programs, 3D design, and more.
- Adhere to Promise Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct to create a safe, inclusive, and professional environment for youth, families, volunteers, staff, and partner organizations.
- Communicate with the Deputy Director about all interactions with youth, participants, families, partners, and updates on program development. This includes cc’ing Deputy Director on all email communications.
- Ensure all reporting requirements are met including monitoring Center budgets, collecting participation data, delivering annual surveys and evaluations, and utilizing PSSL and partner data entry and management systems.
- Develop functional knowledge of key programs and applications including Salesforce, Clubhouse Village, Discord, Slack, and others.
- Schedule building space (onsite and off‑site) for site programming. As obstacles arise, modify space arrangements.
- Supervise during city‑sponsored events as assigned. These are scheduled in advance, usually Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.
