POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Ordinance Enforcement Manager, the Ordinance Enforcement Officer regulates and ensures compliance with City, County and State laws and ordinances as they relate to public health, safety, and welfare; addresses property maintenance, graffiti, blight, and other public nuisances.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Patrols city to identify code violations at residential, business and institutional properties.
- Receives and promptly responds to complaints of potential code violations.
- Conducts field investigations and premise inspections to identify and document violations.
- Makes findings, gathers evidence and reports violations of hazardous conditions, safety, sanitation and health issues.
- Communicates with property owners and/or tenants to review and educate regarding code requirements both in person, via phone, email and mail.
- Issues warnings, correction notices and citations in order to ensure code compliance.
- Coordinates with other city departments, such as police, fire, and community development, and with other agencies, such as the health department.
- Maintains case logs and records related to inspections and enforcement activities.
- Prepares documentation for cases proceeding through court for resolution.
- Testifies and presents evidence in court hearings.
- Ensures properties that are creating a nuisance, safety or health hazard are addressed.
- Exhausts all education and enforcement processes prior to pursuing abatement.
- Identifies abatement problems to resolve, including unsecured vacant buildings and property.
- Directs hiring and work of others to clean up, secure properties, and remove nuisances.
- Participates in joint enforcement and problem solving, including SSL Community Impact Team (COMMIT).
- Attends meetings and joint inspections to serve as a resource to other City departments, divisions and outside agencies.
- Connects residents with volunteer groups to clean up neighborhoods and properties.
- Participates in community events to educate public on role of code enforcement.
- Fulfills GRAMA requests for government records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years of experience in related field, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience is required.
- Preferred related fields include code enforcement, zoning enforcement, law enforcement, public safety, criminal justice, building inspection, environmental health inspection, public administration or planning.
- Must possess or obtain within one year of start date: UOCA certification.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license or obtain one prior to employment.
- Pepper spray certification – will be required to attain pepper spray certification,
