This position is a floater and may be assigned to any district kitchen location based on departmental needs.
As an Assistant Nutrition Manager, you will support our students’ nutritional needs by supporting a team to prepare and serve meals in our school kitchens. You’ll gain industry knowledge and leadership skills while working with staff to maintain inventory and support food preparation and food service in a department where there are multiple advancement opportunities. Assistant Nutrition Managers typically enjoy work hours that coincide with the school day, allowing time with your family during school breaks, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
JOBSUMMARY
The Assistant Nutrition Manager assists Nutrition Managers with daily operations of the kitchen and substitutes for other Nutrition Managers at all levels throughout the district when they are absent from work or on leave. Assistant Nutrition Managers are required to transfer between school kitchens to fulfill department staffing needs.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass a physical abilities assessment
- Six (6) months of job-related experience in the food service industry
- Utah driver’s license, proof of insurability, and access to reliable personal transportation
- Able to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit within two (2) weeks of hire, a Serv Safe Certificate within three (3) months of hire, and a School Nutrition Association (SNA) certificate level I within one year of employment
- Speak, read, write, present professionally, analyze, understand, and interpret written and verbal communications in English
- Ability to complete basic math computations (add, subtract, multiply & divide)
- Two (2) or more years of job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility
- Experience in a supervisory role
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understand
- Use knowledge of health standards and hazards, quantity cooking, and safety practices to follow department practices and procedures, including the proper use of food preparation equipment
- Assist the nutrition manager in all operational and management duties, and provide site supervision in the nutrition manager’s absence
- Assist the nutrition manager with monitoring and operating food service equipment and point of sale for multiple lines while maintaining safe operating conditions and managing a school kitchen effectively, safely, and efficiently
- Assist the nutrition manager with budgeting, receiving of money, and record keeping (e.g., payments, McKinney form, deposits, Free and Reduced Lunch applications, etc.) to ensure accurate accounting
- Assist the nutrition manager with food inventory and food orders, stocking food, condiments, and supplies to ensure availability of items
- Assist the nutrition manager with monitoring kitchen and cafeteria areas to ensure safe and sanitary food service operations
- Assist the nutrition manager with responding to inquiries of students, staff, and the public to provide information or direction regarding serving times and the type and cost of meals, while adhering to program regulations and guidelines
