Responsibilities- Assists with routine maintenance of school and district buildings.
- Checks and secures building at the beginning and end of shift for the safety and cleanliness of the building.
- Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to district standards.
- Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, sills, touchpoints.
- Maintain, clean, and sanitize restrooms.
- May fill soap, paper towel, toilet paper, and other dispensers.
- Mop or run auto scrubber; extracts/bonnets carpets; assist with floor refinishing.
- Remove garbage; maintain grounds (mowing/edging, snow/ice removal, debris, weeding, raking, watering, sweeping).
- May remove graffiti and repair other acts of vandalism.
- Cleans up garbage; repairs furniture, lockers, doors, and small equipment.
- Prepare and set up rooms for meetings and activities and clean up afterwards.
- Help maintain and operate mechanical systems; assist with locking/unlocking doors; security after hours.
- Turn on/off security and lock/unlock the building.
- Attend required apprenticeship classes and complete demonstrations and competency logs.
- Perform duties to maintain an 80% or higher VEKTR inspection.

- Operate and maintain basic cleaning equipment (including buffers, extractors, and auto scrubber); minor equipment adjustments; understand cleaning solvents and their proper application.
- Follow oral and/or written requests from supervisor; basic reading and math skills.
- Physical requirements:
speak/hear; stand, walk, reach with hands/arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; occasional climb/balance; various vision needs; lift up to 100 lbs.

High school diploma or equivalent. - Required Prior
Experience:
No prior experience required. - Required Knowledge and
Skills:
Ability to operate and maintain basic cleaning equipment (buffers, extractors, auto scrubber); basic understanding of cleaning solvents and their proper application; ability to follow directions; basic reading and math skills. - Assigned Decision Making: Makes decisions concerning how to accomplish tasks under supervision; takes direction well and follows guidelines; may make suggestions.
- Interactions with Others: Interacts positively with students, teachers, principals, custodians, and other district personnel; may interact with parents, counselors, and police agencies.
- Supervisory Responsibility: N/A
Physical Requirements
- Works inside and outside; may be exposed to hot/cold weather and hazards when using power equipment, ladders, scaffolds, chemicals.
- May experience interruptions and stress from disruptive students; proper training from head custodian when handling cleaning chemicals.

Job Summary:
Provides assistance to custodians and administrators. Performs tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and garbage removal. May assist in grounds care, building maintenance, cleaning, and moving equipment. May help with building security by locking/unlocking doors and final lock-up at night including turning on security systems. Work week and shifts may vary. This position works sixteen (16) hours during the district's winter break with specifics coordinated with school administration and other contract custodians.
