Overview of South San Francisco Unified School District

The South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) community includes 15 schools supporting 8,000 students in Daly City, San Bruno, and South San Francisco. Our mission is that in partnership with our community, SSFUSD will provide exceptional instruction, engaging experiences, and equitable and accessible opportunities and resources to further support our diverse student body so that students are equipped to learn, thrive, navigate their future with purpose, and impact their community.

In February 2024, the School Board for SSFUSD adopted our new Vision and Five-Year Strategic Plan, which lays out our updated mission, core values, our promise to all students (our “Portrait of a Graduate”), and five strategic priorities to help us bring this promise to life. We are united in our commitment to this vision, and are looking for mission-aligned educators to join us in bringing this vision to life.

Under the direction of the Principal or an assigned Supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students with mild to moderate special needs assigned to a designated special education classroom; tutor individual or small groups of students; perform a variety of support activities related to behavior management of special education students; assist in the preparation of instructional materials;

provide routine clerical support.

The Paraprofessional I – Special Education is assigned to a designated special education classroom or learning environment such as Special Day Class (SDC), Resource Specialist Program (RSP), Inclusion, or other non‑critical care instructional program. Incumbents provide instructional assistance and assist individual or small groups of students with mild to moderate special needs.

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or equivalent GED and some experience working with children in a learning or organized setting. Incumbents must meet requirements specified under every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). In addition, must meet one of the following:

• Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 units);
• Obtained an associate’s or higher degree (college level); OR
• Met (pass) a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics.
