The Hardware Test TeamThe Hardware Test Team ensures performance, reliability, and safety of Zipline’s delivery drones by designing and executing rigorous testing across avionics, power systems, mechanical assemblies, sensors, and other components.
Role OverviewAs an intern, you will design, build, and operate test assets for hardware components, manage the entire lifecycle of testing, and provide data‑driven recommendations to improve product quality.
What You’ll Do- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define component and tester requirements.
- Architect and implement software to validate design and assembly of components ranging from circuit boards to large mechanical assemblies.
- Develop automation‑centric software to streamline testing, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Build deep expertise in the components or systems under test to understand behavior under various operating conditions.
- Own a test asset through planning, implementation, validation, troubleshooting, and analysis of results.
- Experience programming in Python and foundational knowledge of embedded
C. - Experience developing software that interfaces directly with hardware and instrumentation.
- Ability to interpret datasheets and write basic drivers for new components.
- Understanding of fundamental electrical and/or mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience with common electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
Our internships are full‑time positions, in‑person at our South San Francisco or Dallas office. Fall 2026 interns will be hosted from September to December. Candidates are limited to three applications within a 30‑day period.
