Job Description

The Benefits & Leaves Manager is responsible for overseeing all employee benefits, leave of absence programs, workplace accommodations, and workers’ compensation administration. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations—particularly California employment laws—while delivering a positive and supportive employee experience. The position leads a small HR team and works closely with internal partners and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage medical, dental, vision, life insurance, wellness programs, COBRA, and retirement plans
  • Oversee self‑funded and fully insured health plans, including vendor relationships, renewals, and performance analysis
  • Lead annual open enrollment planning, communications, and employee education
  • Ensure compliance with ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and related regulations
  • Direct leave of absence programs including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PWFA, disability, and workers’ compensation
  • Lead the interactive accommodation process in accordance with ADA and FEHA guidelines
  • Coordinate return‑to‑work efforts and benefits transitions
  • Supervise and support HR staff handling benefits, leave, and accommodation cases
  • Monitor legislative changes and manage audits, reporting, and documentation
  • Partner with brokers, carriers, and third‑party administrators
  • Collaborate with HR and communications teams to provide clear guidance to managers and employees
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • HR or Benefits certification preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in benefits and leave administration
  • 2+ years of supervisory or people management experience
  • Experience with self‑insured health plans preferred
  • Strong knowledge of CA and federal employment laws including CFRA, FMLA, PWFA, FEHA/ADA, ACA, ERISA, and COBRA
  • Experience supporting a multi‑site workforce of 500+ employees
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Full‑time, exempt position
  • Hybrid schedule with in‑office presence required two days per week
