The Position
The Molecule & Study Portfolio, Resource Strategy & Planning team provides the core technology platforms for R&D portfolio management and strategic resource planning. We are responsible for the systems that capture, aggregate, and model molecule, study portfolio, and project data to provide actionable business insights. This group delivers comprehensive solutions for long-range strategic planning, resource forecasting, and capacity management across R&D functions.
We serve as a dedicated bridge to the RDT organization, ensuring the alignment of technology solutions with business needs and co‑creating a robust technology strategy to drive critical business outcomes.
As the Head of Product for Molecule & Study Portfolio, Resource Strategy & Planning (Senior Product Leader), you will act as a core architect of business strategy and a champion for an integrated, business‑centric portfolio management ecosystem. You are accountable for the digital transformation of Pharma R&D, delivering a competitive vision and technology/data products that optimize the end‑to‑end portfolio and resource planning processes across pRED, gRED, PD, and PTD.
In this pivotal role, you will navigate a complex global matrix alongside Global Process Owners in Basel and SSF, utilizing AI and automation to remove operational friction and lead the RDT team in building desirable, feasible, viable, sustainable, and compliant products.
- Strategy, Vision & Lifecycle Management:
Set the direction and own the end‑to‑end lifecycle for complex products, co‑creating product strategy with business partners, defining KPIs, and proactively integrating AI capabilities to achieve financial and business objectives. - Customer‑Centricity & User
Experience:
Establish an aspirational vision for the end‑to‑end user experience, proactively identifying emerging trends and market shifts to inform long‑term roadmaps and maintain a competitive advantage. - Stakeholder
Collaboration:
Serve as a key strategic liaison and trusted business partner for Heads of Portfolio Strategy and Management, effectively influencing senior leaders and external partners to drive cost efficiencies and informed decision‑making. - Team Leadership & Optimization:
Lead initiatives to improve product management processes, coach multidisciplinary teams (business analysts, system architects, software engineers), and connect product performance to broader business outcomes for long‑term growth. - Financial & Resource Management:
Develop multi‑year financial forecasts, build strategic plans, and intelligently allocate resources across multiple product teams to maximize portfolio ROI and ensure alignment with business objectives. - Innovation & Market Trends:
Identify new opportunities for innovation, capitalizing on emerging market trends and technologies to shape the future of the industry's portfolio management capabilities. - Vendor & Partner Management:
Evaluate and manage third‑party software vendors and consultants to augment internal platform capabilities, ensuring seamless integration while maintaining strict compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Experienced Professional: 10+ years of experience in product management or business analysis with a proven track record of launching technology products, and 2+ years in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated healthcare technology industry.
- Dynamic Leader: 2+ years of leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams (engineering/product managers), with exceptional communication skills to align diverse groups—including scientists, engineers, and executives—toward a common goal.
- Domain Expert:
Deep understanding of the R&D lifecycle (Discovery through Clinical) and the critical decision‑making milestones within drug development; proficiency in molecule portfolio, project, and resource management processes is a strong plus. - Technically Astute:
Strong grasp of the product discovery and development lifecycle, modern software architecture (e.g., microservices, APIs, cloud platforms), and familiarity with data science and AI/ML concepts. - Strategic Executor:
Executive presence with product mastery, demonstrating the ability to translate high‑level business and scientific goals into a concrete, actionable product vision and roadmap.
