Production Manager, Manufacturing & Industrial Operations
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Sr Supervisor to join our Library Production Team in South San Francisco,CA . This team is responsible for the manufacture of high quality, bespoke variant library products across Twist Bioscience's proprietary process workflow, delivered against the Twist production forecast and timelines. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient, accurate, and timely production of high-quality library products to meet the diverse needs of our clients and partners.
The Sr Supervisor will oversee all aspects of production, from initial planning and execution to quality control and delivery across all shift schedules. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
- Manufacture high quality, bespoke library products in a high-throughput MFG lab according to established SOPs.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Manufacturing Associates and supervisors involved in library production activities.
- Hire, onboard, develop, train, performance manage, reward, and conduct corrective action with supervisors and team members.
- Manage team performance, including setting goals, providing feedback, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Oversee the entire library production process, from raw material handling and DNA synthesis intermediates through to final product delivery.
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and detailed documentation/databases of all work produced in batch records, databases, or other acceptable formats, including problems and deviations.
- Partner with Quality leaders to assure robust manufacturing and product compliance, and ensure production activities are carried out in accordance with established SOPs, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, GMP).
- Operate and oversee the use of basic semi-automated/automated lab equipment for molecular biology workflows (PCR, DNA quantitation and handling, DNA purification, bioanalyzers, centrifuges, sealers, thermocyclers, spectrometers, HPLCs, Next Gen Sequencing, etc.).
- Track metrics on the quality of product produced via both physical and functional test methods; monitor production yields, efficiency, and quality metrics, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Triage in-depth and complex process investigations, as appropriate, and manage the execution of complex and non-standard production orders, including process development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Proactively identify production problems and provide solutions on lab techniques, protocols, processes, handling of product, and equipment; identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities and lead timely resolution of manufacturing issues.
- Support cost improvement initiatives by reducing failures, improving capacity, and using supplies wisely; reduce work in process, queues, and cycle times.
- Work closely with the Technology Transfer group to implement new processes into the manufacturing floor, and with cross-functional teams to develop tools that facilitate production.
- Maintain the Training Matrix for all team members and ensure ongoing compliance with training requirements.
- Work with the procurement team to ensure synthesis chemical/reagent supply meets production needs, including regularly scheduled conference calls with suppliers as needed.
- Maintain and calibrate select lab equipment.
- Uphold manufacturing operations to best practices, including ISO, GMP, and/or LEAN manufacturing principles, and follow ISO 13485 requirements.
- Prepare and present documentation including data summaries, presentations, and technical/analytical reports.
