The Position
2026 Summer Intern - Integrative Immunogenomics
Department Summary
The Human Genetics organization advances discovery and translational science by integrating large-scale genomic data with disease biology to generate insights that inform drug discovery and precision medicine. Our work spans autoimmune disease, inflammation, and oncology, with a strong emphasis on immune-mediated mechanisms and causal inference.
This internship provides doctoral-level trainees with the opportunity to contribute to high-impact, business-critical research at the intersection of human genetics, immunology, and computational biology.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.
The Opportunity
As an Integrative Immunogenomics Intern, you will lead a focused research project leveraging whole-genome sequencing data and advanced variant calling outputs to understand how structural variation, somatic variation, and HLA diversity influence immune pathways relevant to disease risk and therapeutic response.
- Analyze whole-genome sequencing datasets to characterize structural variants, clonal hematopoiesis (CHIP) events, and HLA class I/II variation in immune-related genes.
- Integrate genomic findings with immune pathway and gene-set resources (e.g., Reactome, Innate
DB, Open Targets). - Assess associations between genetic features and immune or inflammatory phenotypes across selected disease areas, including autoimmunity and immune-oncology.
- Summarize results at the gene- and pathway-level to support ongoing pathobiology mapping and translational research efforts.
- Communicate findings through a final written report and oral presentation to cross-functional scientific stakeholders.
- Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
- Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
- Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated experience analyzing genomic or high-dimensional biological data.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar analytical languages.
- Solid foundation in human genetics and molecular biology concepts.
- Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with whole-genome sequencing data and variant interpretation.
- Familiarity with structural variants, somatic variation, or HLA typing.
- Background or strong interest in immune biology, autoimmunity, or cancer immunology.
- Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary research environments.
