- We are seeking a creative, self-motivated, and collaborative Contractor/Scientist II to join the Nucleic Acid Design and Discovery (NADD) team within the Protein Sciences (PS) department are looking for a candidate with experience in oligonucleotide discovery and synthesis to support our growing oligonucleotide therapeutics discovery group. Experience in oligonucleotide therapeutics delivery and large molecule drug discovery is preferred. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary chemistry team focused on RNAi biology research and contribute positively to its evolving culture.
- Work in an oligonucleotide therapeutic drug discovery research lab and collaborate across therapeutic areas including neuroscience, immunology, and oncology to help build a comprehensive therapeutic discovery strategy.
- Apply knowledge of oligonucleotide synthesis and, ideally, troubleshooting and impurity profiling.
- Collaborate with scientists to maintain shared laboratory equipment, including oligo synthesizers, HPLC systems, and desalting units.
- Perform literature reviews; propose and execute nucleic acid chemistry plans; coordinate chemistry and biology data to support oligonucleotide compound progression.
- Establish methods for scaled-up synthesis of lead molecules and coordinate material delivery for preclinical studies.
- Maintain a high level of laboratory productivity to support timelines for in vitro and in vivo studies.
- BS or MS in Organic Chemistry or a related discipline and 5+ years of relevant experience
- Hands-on experience with automated oligonucleotide synthesizers, nucleic acid chemistry, oligonucleotide purification, and characterization using HPLC and mass spectrometry.
- Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience in RNAi therapeutics research and development is preferred.
- Strong understanding of nucleic acid therapeutic modalities, modification chemistries, sequence selection, and mechanisms of action preferred. Experience with oligonucleotide therapeutics, large molecule drug discovery, oligonucleotide delivery, or bioconjugation is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, which will be evaluated during the interview process.
- Highly motivated with strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
