About the Role
We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. We seek a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to lead the development and implementation of next‑generation multidimensional ultra‑high‑performance liquid chromatography (mD UHPLC) analytical platforms. This role will design and deploy automated multidimensional UHPLC‑MS workflows that eliminate tedious offline sample preparation, prevent sample artifacts, and provide unprecedented resolving power for variant and impurity characterization directly from complex matrices.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop multidimensional UHPLC‑MS workflows for complex biotherapeutics such as multispecific antibodies, ADCs, and gene‑editing components.
- Implement online, orthogonal separations to overcome traditional one‑dimensional UHPLC limitations.
- Conduct comprehensive physico‑chemical characterization and attribute screening of complex modalities.
- Lead creation of control strategies and provide analytical solutions that accelerate development timelines.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in Research, Molecular Assessment, and Development across Genentech/Roche networks.
- Publish high‑impact papers, present at conferences, and contribute to the scientific community.
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
- Proven track record of designing, developing, and qualifying robust analytical methods for protein and/or nucleic acid characterization.
- Strong publication record as primary author in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Hands‑on experience with high‑performance liquid chromatography and high‑resolution mass spectrometry (Orbitrap) across diverse workflows (peptide mapping, intact/subunit mass analysis, oligonucleotide mapping, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in matrixed, cross‑functional projects.
- Highly motivated, detail‑oriented, and scientifically driven with an agile approach to complex problem solving.
- Foundational knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry concepts.
- Hands‑on experience with multidimensional liquid chromatography (2D‑LC) and HRMS for complex structural elucidation.
- Experience characterizing complex biotherapeutic formats (bispecific mAb, ADCs, etc.) and complex nucleic acids (mRNA, plasmid, etc.).
- Proficiency with advanced chromatography and mass spectrometry data‑processing software such as Bio Pharma Finder, Protein Metrics/Byos, or Chromeleon.
Salary range: $100,000 to $106,500 (South San Francisco, CA). Salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include relocation support. Postdoctoral Program supported by competitive salaries and fully funded research expenses.
