Job Description & How to Apply Below

Small Molecule DMPK / Bioanalysis Scientist

This role focuses on hands-on small molecule bioanalysis within a nimble drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) environment. The contractor supports end-to-end bioanalytical workflows, including tissue and plasma sample preparation, LC-MS/MS methods, and pharmacokinetic and pharmacometric analyses. The position suits someone who enjoys working at the bench, can quickly integrate into a collaborative team, and operates independently with minimal guidance while contributing across the full DMPK workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on tissue and plasma sample preparation to support small molecule bioanalysis, ensuring accurate handling, labeling, and tracking of all samples.
  • Prepare and execute calibration curves and dilutions to support robust LC-MS/MS quantitation of small molecules.
  • Conduct sample thawing and processing activities in accordance with established bioanalytical protocols and quality standards.
  • Support and execute LC-MS/MS workflows for small molecule bioanalysis, including instrument setup, basic troubleshooting, and routine operation.
  • Contribute to pharmacokinetic and pharmacometric (PK/PD) analyses using tools such as NONMEM and PsN, supporting data analysis and interpretation.
  • Perform plasma protein binding assays and related in vitro studies as needed to support small molecule characterization.
  • Support microsomal and other in vitro ADME assays as required, contributing to broader DMPK and bioanalysis studies.
  • Work across the full DMPK workflow with limited hand holding, taking ownership of assigned experiments and tasks from planning through execution and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with a small, nimble DMPK team to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality data.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and observations clearly and accurately in laboratory records and reports.
  • Follow laboratory best practices, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Contribute proactively to process improvements and workflow optimization within the DMPK and bioanalysis function.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in small molecule bioanalysis within a DMPK or related laboratory environment.
  • Strong background in bioanalysis, including tissue and plasma sample preparation and handling.
  • Proficiency with LC-MS/MS workflows for quantitative analysis of small molecules.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare calibration curves and perform accurate dilutions for bioanalytical assays.
  • Experience with sample thawing, processing, and management in a regulated or process-driven laboratory setting.
  • Practical experience with pharmacokinetic and pharmacometric analysis tools such as NONMEM and PsN.
  • Ability to support the full DMPK workflow from sample preparation through data generation with limited supervision.
  • Capability to operate independently, take initiative, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail in recording experimental procedures and results.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively within a small, cross-functional team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with plasma protein binding assays to characterize small molecule binding properties.
  • Experience with microsomal assays and other in vitro ADME studies.
  • Broader ADME and DMPK experience beyond core bioanalysis responsibilities.
  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (such as pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, or a related field).
  • Postdoctoral experience in DMPK, bioanalysis, or a closely related area.
  • Familiarity with additional DMPK tools, software, and workflows is advantageous.
  • Interest in gaining comprehensive exposure to end-to-end DMPK workflows within a dynamic team environment.

Work Environment

The role is based within a nimble DMPK team in a laboratory setting in South San Francisco. The environment is highly hands-on and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on flexibility and willingness to support multiple parts of the DMPK and bioanalysis workflow. You will work closely with a small group of scientists who value open communication, shared problem-solving, and direct contributions to project progress.

The position offers the opportunity to gain extensive, practical experience across the full DMPK workflow, including sample preparation, LC-MS/MS operations, and data analysis. This is a one-year contract with potential for extension, providing a focused period to deepen technical skills and contribute meaningfully to small molecule bioanalysis in a fast-moving research setting.
