Inflammation Research - In Vivo Pharmacology Scientist What you will do

The Department of Inflammation Research is seeking a dedicated, driven and independent Senior Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology (IVP) group as part of a fast-paced, integrated and interactive research group exploring therapeutics for Inflammation, Autoimmune, and Rare Disease programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing experiments exploring and understanding the pharmacology of drug targets; generating, communicating pharmacology and preclinical data to support the progression of research projects, and providing technical expertise to therapeutic area scientists.

This role has the potential for managing up to one report initially, contribution to project teams, collaboration with therapeutic area scientists and teams at multiple Amgen sites.

Who are you

PhD degree in immunology, biology, pharmacology or relative disciplines.

Post-doc or industry experience will be a plus.

Strong expertise in hands-on expertise in animal (rodent) handling and in vivo techniques (i.v., i.p., p.o., i.d., s.c., i.t., bleeds, necropsy) essential.

Significant experience designing and executing concurrent in vivo preclinical inflammation and autoimmune disease models. Experience with colitis, lupus, arthritis, immune modulation (TLR, DTH, Immunization), and respirotoray models preferred..

Hands-on experience with ex vivo / in vitro cellular, and biochemical assay techniques (i.e. ELISA, MSD, WB, quantitative RT-PCR, tissue protein extraction) is essential.

Significant experience with multicolor flow cytometry, including Spectral flow approaches and knowledge of and experience working with immune cell populations is essential.

Experience working in a collaborative team-oriented environment and working on project teams leading in vivo contributions is essential.

Attention to detail, excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, accurate & timely record keeping and data analysis are essential.

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement.

Computer literacy, especially proficiency with Graph Pad Prism, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Key Responsibilities

Design, conduct and lead in vivo preclinical model studies and ex vivo analysis independently in collaboration with Inflammation scientists and collaborators.

Design, execute and data analysis of cutting-edge research and in vivo pharmacology experiments contributing to Amgen's Inflammation TA research pipeline.

Utilize in vivo pharmacology and animal models to validate and accelerate molecules through the research pipeline.

Inform, collaborate, and communicate in vivo planning and results with therapeutic area (TA) scientists to align with project goals.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree in immunology or cell biology, or related discipline and 2 years of industry experience in biotech/pharma

OR

Bachelor's degree in immunology or cell biology, or related discipline and 4 years of experience in biotech/pharma

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement as exemplified by your publication record and / or significant contribution to a therapeutic program
