Software Engineer
Shift: Wednesday–Saturday 9:00 pm‑7:30 am
Pay:
Starting at $42/hr, with an extra $2.50/hr on Wednesday and Thursday nights and $4.50/hr on Friday and Saturday nights.
- Take responsibility for uptime on a multi‑million dollar pipeline through equipment maintenance, instrument qualification, and rapid response to issues.
- Interface with CLIA laboratory personnel to troubleshoot problems and schedule work on instrumentation.
- Perform regular maintenance to keep robotics and instrumentation running in top shape.
- Work closely with automation engineers to define critical feature requests and potential improvements.
- Maintain advanced laboratory technology in molecular diagnostics.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot liquid‑handling processes on multiple instrument platforms.
- Specify and support implementation of custom hardware and software solutions to continuously improve the MWH laboratory platform (e.g., robots, gantries, PLCs, scheduling, tracking, safety).
- Apply cutting‑edge technology to literally save lives.
- Have a BS in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or equivalent experience servicing complex laboratory instrumentation and robotic hardware, as demonstrated by prior employment or projects.
- Have seven or more years of experience repairing and/or maintaining laboratory instrumentation or instruments of similar complexity (Tecan is desirable).
- Have attentiveness and vigilance to maintain a complex suite of instrumentation and robotic equipment.
- Know whether a problem’s solution is hardware, software, or chemistry.
- Recognize quickly when a superior solution exists and be unafraid to recommend changes.
- Be punctual, able to work a steady schedule, and help cover other shift times as needed.
- Work tirelessly to get things done right the first time.
- Be well‑organized and have an eye for detail.
- Be excited about the prospect of a fully automated genome factory.
- Want to learn everything you don’t yet know to perform optimally in a fast‑paced environment.
