Senior Data Scientist, GenAI Foundation – Role Overview
Supports back‑end product development and focuses on building and scaling next‑generation agentic infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Design and build extensible, multi‑agent infrastructure and foundational systems for high‑performing agentic components.
- Establish governance frameworks for agents and data sources, ensuring compliance with Genentech/Roche security, observability, and compliance standards.
- Stay at the forefront of generative AI infrastructure and security, proactively integrating emerging technologies.
- Influence critical technical decisions and priorities, balancing business goals with scalable, reliable AI system requirements.
- Partner with cross‑functional business units and global Roche stakeholders to integrate agentic solutions into broader digital strategies.
- Advocate AI literacy organization‑wide, mentoring peers and stakeholders to build a shared AI‑savvy culture.
- Maintain collaborative team culture, surface systemic issues to leadership, and ensure adherence to all laws, regulations, and corporate policies.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in a relevant field.
- Expert‑level grasp of Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures and document optimization (chunking), deep proficiency in vector and graph databases, SQL, and AI‑generated SQL techniques.
- Hands‑on experience with LLM frameworks (Lang Chain, Lang Graph, AWS Agent‑core) and mastery of Gen AI tools, including MCP and A2A protocols.
- Proven ability to transform traditional ML models and API services into agentic, MCP‑compliant tools within multimodal architectures.
- Comprehensive mastery of observability tools for agentic systems, optimizing cost, reliability, and latency trade‑offs.
- Building infrastructure for Gen AI products in B2B environments.
- Experience with multimodal Gen AI tools, especially voice‑based interfaces.
- Knowledge of security protocols common in enterprise environments.
- Work experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industries.
South San Francisco, CA. Hybrid schedule: 3 days per week on campus. Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.
CompensationSalary range: $177,310 – $329,290 (South San Francisco). Actual pay depends on experience, qualifications, and location. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance.
