Project Engineer – South Sioux City, NE
This position focuses on designing and executing multiple projects to deliver scope, time, and cost objectives while ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. The role involves full life‑cycle project management, continuous improvement initiatives, and close collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
Responsibilities- Design and execute multiple projects of moderate complexity, delivering scope, time, and cost according to plan.
- Work with engineering service providers, contractors, and vendors to specify equipment and installations.
- Ensure processes and procedures comply with internal programs and external requirements.
- Develop engineering designs, material and energy balances, process flow diagrams, preliminary P&IDs, and process control strategies.
- Manage the full life cycle of capital projects: concept, design, estimating, proposal submittal, purchasing, installation, start‑up, commissioning, documentation, training, and closure.
- Use knowledge management tools to surface best solutions and drive project efficiencies.
- Analyze data and performance targets to identify high‑value improvement opportunities.
- Analyze processes, develop new operating techniques, and recommend changes or capital expenditures to maintain or improve business efficiencies, facility life, and quality.
- Design and implement capital permits and projects within budget and on time, delivering targeted ROI and complying with engineering standards.
- Provide technical support to the EHS&S and Quality Manager for work‑process redesign that eliminates losses due to personal injury or property damage.
- Supervise and execute projects, establish and meet budget, schedule, and training requirements, and coordinate with all departments.
- Support lean manufacturing methodologies, ensuring team members utilize tools and deliver results.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop and implement continuous improvement strategies aimed at optimizing overall equipment reliability and performance.
- Lead continuous improvement projects to elevate reliability and performance of factory assets and structures, focusing on cost‑saving measures, digital transformation, and downtime reduction.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical preferred) or a related field with one to three years of engineering experience.
- Proven experience as a Project Engineer or similar role in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Knowledge of grain processing industry or experience in food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, chemical, or bio‑chemical manufacturing.
- Experience in research and engineering – manufacturing or protein isolate manufacturing is a plus.
- Solid understanding of engineering and unit operations, basic chemistry, heat and material balances, P&t, mechanical and physical/chemical separations, evaporation, drying, material handling, cGMPs, sanitary design, and energy management.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills with ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment.
- Effective collaboration skills and the ability to build respectful relationships across all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership through mentoring, coaching, and fostering a proactive team culture.
- Self‑starter with strong work ethic, accountability, and drive for results and continuous improvement.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and openness to change in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
- Source of data and insights to support cross‑functional recommendations and informed decision‑making.
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, safety, operational discipline, and compliance with Ingredion’s Environmental, GMP, and Quality standards.
- Preferred knowledge of Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of cost analysis and budget management.
- Safety qualifications: ability to work safely in manufacturing environment (climbing stairs, working at heights, confined spaces, operating equipment with required PPE, full range of motion, standing/walking for extended periods in hot or wet conditions).
