Overview
The Maintenance Worker Aide position performs assigned duties to assist full-time staff in the Streets, Utilities, or Parks divisions of Public Works. Duties include operation of a variety of Public Works equipment. The job duties and/or essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities- Perform grounds maintenance including, mowing of park land, care of flower beds and shrubs, and trimming of trees.
- Perform ballfield maintenance including, dragging of fields, irrigation, mowing, etc.
- Perform street maintenance including, crack sealing, pothole patching, tree trimming, black dirt and seeding.
- Assist in Watermain, and/or hydrant maintenance repairs/service, including traffic control and flagging in conjunction with street maintenance work.
- Removal of trash or debris from public trash bins, parks, streets and other public owned facilities.
- Safe operation of a variety of public works equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, hand tools.
- Driving public works pick-up trucks with trailers if age 18 and older.
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as are apparent or assigned.
Preferred age 18 or older. Must be at least 17 years of age to apply.
Valid driver’s license with good driving record;
Previous experience working with grounds maintenance equipment desired.
Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety precautions. General knowledge of equipment, materials, construction methods and maintenance activities. The ability to perform the following work activities with or without reasonable accommodations.
Qualifications- Ability to operate a variety of maintenance equipment in a safe manner (i.e. mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, hand tools, etc.).
- Age 18 years and older;
Ability to drive a public works vehicle during the course of job duties, and adhere to all traffic laws. - Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to be flexible with work hours, work independently, and complete job tasks as assigned.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, hear within normal hearing range, and possess visual acuity correctable to read common documents.
- Maintain regular attendance.
