Unlocatable Utility Technician
Lake Superior Consulting is seeking multiple Unlocatable Utility Locating Technicians in the following locations:
St. Paul, Cottage Grove, Hastings, Rosemount, Apple Valley, South St. Paul, Woodbury, Lakeland, Afton, Eagan, Castle Rock, Farmington, Empire, Burnsville, Bloomington and surrounding areas. This individual will be responsible for accurately locating and marking cables, pipes, and other conduits that carry utilities underground.
The locators' efforts protect underground utilities from damage during projects that involve excavation. These are daytime, full-time positions where overtime is required. We work some weekends as needed and require you to be physically ready for extended hours in all weather conditions. LSC is a trusted name recognized for its strong commitment to quality and safety. - Respond to locate requests within legal time limit – this includes routine and project locates as well as unlocatable requests
- Mark found utilities using proper coloring system (APWA marking standards)
- Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify the size and type of underground utility.
- Utilize hand tools to dig and clear varieties of terrain
- Familiarity with specialized equipment such as a hydrovac and air excavators
- Troubleshoot unlocatable buried facilities
- Work with third party contractors to find buried lines
- Complete required paperwork for locates and line crossings/excavations
- Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures
- Follow all required guidelines to perform on-site Watch and Protect assistance
- Communicate work scopes and responsibilities amongst project specific field-based teams
- Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs)
- Operate and use electronic locating equipment
- Gather data, prepare records and reports in a timely manner
- Perform daily safety meetings and submit daily report documentations
- Generate and gather equipment for kickoffs of projects
- Ensure your work is utilized with respect to company goals
- Document and report any incidents, near misses, and opportunities for improvement
- Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines
- Properly document work done to show measurements for future use
Due to our driver policy, must be 21 years of age or older High School Diploma 1-2 years of utility locating experience preferred Valid Driver's License required Ability to travel and work in an outdoor environment Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools Must have strong critical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities Commitment to working safely and producing high quality, ethical service Good organizational skills and detail oriented Highly motivated and thrives in a dynamic, team-based and individual environment Professional verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable with utilizing a laptop, Microsoft Office programs, and cell phone Availability to participate in on-call rotation
Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment, as required Ability to perform strenuous tasks such as hand digging, for extended periods of time Ability to traverse rugged terrain, excavations and work around pipe and equipment, as required Must be able to travel to offsite locations for extended periods of time Frequent periods of standing for long periods Occasional lifting of up to 50 lb.
Exposure to all types of weather and terrain Ability to work long hours for extended periods, when projects demand Ability to sit at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods
