How You Can Make An Impact

As a Finishing Operator in Folding-Gluing, you will be responsible for setting up and running the folder/gluer machines to produce cartons that meet customer specifications. You will maintain the equipment, track the production schedule, provide special instructions to the catchers, and enter job information into the Radius computer program. Operators are also responsible for communicating and correcting quality issues with plant leadership.

Day In The Life
  • Prepare Make-Ready of the feeder unit.
  • Run initial quantities after setting up the folder/gluer machine to demonstrate production capability.
  • Operate the folder/gluer machine that folds and glues various types of folding cartons and produce quality products.
  • Read and respond to scheduling software to define machine set-up.
  • Understand and practice correct equipment operation as applied.
  • Assist with all associated set-up tasks as directed by the Folder Operator.
  • Support machine efficiency by handling stock, loads, and stacking according to size, shape, and quantity.
  • Work to meet monthly and quarterly efficiency goals by exceeding production and quality standards.
  • Perform quality checks and report deficiencies to plant leadership when discovered.
  • Maintain machine work records and update in a timely manner.
  • Monitor equipment status and brief plant leadership as needed.
  • Work around equipment and use tools to set up the folder/gluer machine.
  • Report missing, broken, bent, or worn parts to the supervisor or maintenance personnel.
  • Keep the area clean and assist in set-up of the equipment.
Capabilities & Experience Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • At least 1 year of paperboard folding carton industry or similar print/packaging experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience on a folder-gluer machine
  • Communication skills – ability to read and comprehend instructions; ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Mathematical skills – ability to perform unit conversions and calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percentage
  • Reasoning ability – ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and problems involving concrete variables in standard situations
  • Computer skills – basic computer skills to read work instructions, record job data, follow work schedule, and communicate via email
  • Technical capacity. Good mechanical aptitude
  • Flexible, adaptable and teamwork oriented
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand and move about the work station throughout the day
  • Ability to respond to continually changing priorities and coordinate multiple projects
