Position summary:
A Quality Testing Technician is an individual responsible for testing the quality of inbound and outbound materials and communicate findings relative to material specifications.
Duties and responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. - Assist in utilizing the SMI quality system at SMI facility.
- Lead in ensuring that products and services meet or exceed customer specifications.
- Perform plant quality checks per SMI's quality procedures.
- Track quality performance, identify problem areas, takes action to contain any deficient material from leaving the facility and undertakes other actions to improve.
- Assist with plant quality meetings and training of plant employees.
- Update and maintain quality records on a computer. Analyze data and produce reports, as requested.
- Observe production line workers' actions to ensure sampling and testing are done correctly.
- Perform and document in-process cullet sampling in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Conduct and document incoming and outgoing load inspections.
- Work with the maintenance personnel to ensure equipment operates efficiently to optimize product quality.
- Wear appropriate site-specific personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
- Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and company safety policies.
- Cross-trained in other plant positions, as needed.
- Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.

- Quality improvement process knowledge.
- Core competencies in quality control, testing, and auditing, a plus.
- Able to read and understand procedures and test methods.
- Capable of operating quality equipment (inspection tables, ovens, etc.).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently, with little supervision.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Color vision.
- Data entry experience.
- Capable of using a calculator and laboratory scales and competency with interpreting numbers.
- Basic computer operation skills (experience with Excel and Outlook).
