About this positionPosition Summary:
Diagnoses and repairs a variety of diesel-powered commercial light and heavy equipment using manuals, specialized knowledge and other sources.
Perform maintenance and service work, assess and diagnose small engines. Understand warranty processes and document repair actions.
- Basic hand and power tools
- 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine experience
- Read and understand service manuals and schematics
- Communicate with service advisors on repair processes
Perform maintenance and service work, assess and diagnose diesel engines and hydraulic systems. Understand emission components, CAN bus, and hydraulic principles. Understand warranty processes and document repair actions.
- Advanced tool selection
- CAN bus and hydraulic experience
- Utilize diagnostic software
- Communicate complex repair processes
- Diagnose and repair units requiring routine maintenance and special repair according to work orders or approved repairs.
- Disassemble and assemble units using a variety of hand and power tools according to accepted procedures.
- Communicate with service writers regarding status of units under repair according to work orders or approved repairs.
- Perform safety and operational checks on repaired units; repair items out of tolerance.
- Pull own stock as required using forklift or pallet jack.
- Communicate with service writers regarding status of units being assembled or repaired.
- Requisition parts required for repairs and communicate to service writer as needed.
- Complete all required paperwork and time recording.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Education:
High school or equivalent; vocational education program or training preferred. - Experience:
3–5 years in auto/truck or heavy equipment mechanical work. - Mechanical ability, diagnostic skills, diesel mechanics.
- Certification:
Auto/Diesel mechanics. ASE or other certification. - Working conditions:
Interior service bay work involving lifting and moving objects with or without assistance. Exposure to solvents, lubricants, engine fuel. Some noise from engines and tools. Exterior stock retrieval and testing of units may be required.
