Medical Secretary – Urology, ARI
Band 4 – 37 hours per week – Permanent.
The Medical Secretarial Service have a vacancy to join the Urology Team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced secretary or administrator looking to expand their existing knowledge or move into the medical secretarial team.
PostThe post holder will work as part of the Medical Secretary Team in the Urology Department at ARI providing secretarial and administrative support to a large team of Consultant Surgeons and their medical and nursing staff. The role is busy but rewarding in a fast-based specialty with a high volume of cancer patients.
- Booking theatre lists
- UCAN outpatient clinics
- Diary management
- Answering patient queries
- Management of the awaiting results system
- Other administrative and PA tasks
Hours of work are negotiable between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday. The post is full-time at 37 hours per week, reducing to 36 hours per week in April 2026 (with no loss of pay) in line with the NHS Scotland reduced working week.
What We Love To See- Previous Medical Secretary experience or similar role such as Legal Secretary, PA, or Team Secretary.
- Experience of scheduling appointments / diary management, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to touch type with experience of transcription of documents from audio files.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and NHS experience in an administrative role (advantageous but not essential).
The Medical Secretarial Service provides secretarial and administrative support to medical, surgical, and clinical teams across the acute sector of NHS Grampian. The team consists of Medical Secretaries, Audio Typists, Administrators, Filing Clerks, Receptionists, Trainers, PAs, and the Management Team.
Opportunities for expansion and progression exist within the Medical Secretarial Service, including expanding your knowledge into various other medical, surgical, and clinical services, or developing into supervisory, training, or management roles over time.
