Job SummaryTo process bank teller transactions accurately and timeously through the execution of predefined objectives, ensuring that customers are assisted promptly and in a friendly manner. Job Description- Execute cash & related transactions: balance, control and manage the cash float by checking the amount of cash at the teller station and requesting restocking or repatriation when prescribed cash limits are reached.
- Dispense and receive physical cash, cheques, travellers cheques, drafts and other financial instruments over the counter to walk-in customers.
- Process and encash cheques presented by customers for deposit or pay-out after checking identification, account details and other prescribed controls.
- Be vigilant for fraudulent or suspicious activities and report concerns to the team leader or branch manager before processing the transaction or dispensing the cash.
- Adherence to policies especially when handling cheques, notes, IDs, etc, under the 2 to prevent fraud. Refer transactions in excess of teller mandate limits for authorisation.
- Capture all transactions on the Bank system and ensure that all transactions are properly authorised before finalising the processing.
- Carefully count all cash received or dispensed to avoid errors using the applicable cash counting equipment; reconcile cash at the beginning and end of each day and when cash is restocked.
- Prepare reconciliation reports for audit and management review purposes.
- Ensure that journals are processed to recover charges for manual transactions processed for customers.
- Ensure adherence to the SARB minimum requirements.
- Customer Service: provide advice to customers on cash and other transactions to ensure smooth flow of transactions; exhaust all attempts to resolve enquiries before escalating; provide regular feedback on progress; explain procedures and security requirements; report customer complaints to improve service; guide customers on completing transaction documentation; ensure accuracy and efficiency; maintain professional image and appearance; keep workstation neat and tidy.
- Proactively arrange workspace to ensure sufficient stationery; read pricing documents related to Teller transactions to assist clients; adhere to policy on issuing pins and statements; migrate clients with CW transactions under R4000 and CD under R8000 to Digital & Self-help channels; maintain speed and agility in assisting clients to minimise shortages and surpluses; market products by providing informational materials and educating clients on alternatives;
educate customers on Internet Kiosk usage. - Identifying sales leads: identify and action sales leads and cross-selling opportunities; explain campaign details during campaigns; use sales tools to provide leads for Branch Sales; take responsibility for own sales targets and assist daily with client solutions; capture leads on SMD and follow up with Sales Consultants to ensure contact.

Risk Management:
open/close the branch safe according to procedures; conduct cash counts and visual checks; ensure transaction records are kept and available for control; verify information accuracy before processing; refer concerns to the line manager; follow cash management procedures; stay informed on communications and risk alerts; adhere to controls to prevent fraud, losses and shortages; report suspicious transactions; maintain registers; adhere to safety and security procedures;
keep cubicles and workstations secured; follow end-of-day procedures and branch paper mandate; ensure processing within correct limits and mandates. - Maintain up-skilling with policies regarding daily teller duties, cheques, fraud, and foreign exchange to prevent fraud; ensure fault reporting and testing of equipment in the teller environment.
