Appointment:
Permanent, full-time position
Salary: R 60 000 basic per month plus commission (10% of nett profit of total dealership)

A well established, large Multi Franchise Dealership is looking for an experienced
Dealer Principal. The successful candidate must have previous DP experience, and be energetic, self-driven and disciplined to implement processes and build the team and branch to high performance levels.

A Dealer Principal at a multi-franchise dealership is a senior management role responsible for the entire operation and financial performance of a dealership group that represents multiple automotive brands. This role requires a visionary leader with exceptional business acumen, who can manage various departments, maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, and drive profitability across all locations while ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in a senior management role within the automotive industry, particularly in a multi-franchise environment.

Strategic Leadership and Management:

  • Formulate and execute strategic plans for the dealership group to achieve and exceed sales, profit, and market share targets.
  • Oversee all operational processes, ensuring maximum efficiency and profitability across all departments, including sales (new and used vehicles), after-sales, service, parts, and administration.
  • Implement forward-thinking ideas and modern business methods to adapt to a dynamic market.
  • Report directly to senior management or the board of directors, providing regular business updates and financial analysis.

Financial Performance:

  • Manage the financial health of the business, including budget preparation, expense control, and a satisfactory return on investment.
  • Analyse financial statements and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Control cash flow, stock levels, and assets at an optimal level to meet financial objectives.
  • Develop and implement pricing policies, sales discounts, and incentive schemes to maximize profitability.

People Management and Development:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of departmental managers and staff across all branches.
  • Establish a high-performing, positive work culture and an inclusive environment.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, and retention of skilled staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and provide coaching and mentorship to ensure employee growth and productivity.

Manufacturer and Stakeholder Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with all represented vehicle manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Ensure the dealership group adheres to all manufacturer and group standards, targets, and compliance requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including suppliers, legal representatives, and professional bodies.

Customer Satisfaction and Market Growth:

  • Ensure a customer-centric environment that prioritizes customer acquisition and retention.
  • Oversee customer service interventions and marketing campaigns to improve customer satisfaction and increase brand loyalty.
  • Stay informed about competitor intelligence and market trends to drive business growth and market penetration.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and workmanship in all departments.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Dealer Principal, General Manager, or in a similar senior management role within the automotive industry.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a multi-franchise dealership or a large automotive retail operation.
  • Strong financial acumen and a comprehensive understanding of dealership operations, including managing profit and loss statements.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (diploma or degree in a business or commercial field is often preferred).
  • A valid and unendorsed driver's license.
