The Company
Set against the scenic mountain ranges of Cape Town, this historic estate spans approximately 200 hectares of vineyards across varied elevations and soil profiles. Multiple meso-climates and progressive viticultural practices underpin the production of premium red and white varieties.
The RoleReporting to the Line Manager, the Vineyard Manager will gradually take full responsibility for all vineyard operations, learning from the current manager to ensure a smooth transition. The role includes leading vineyard teams, managing resources and budgets, and implementing viticultural practices that deliver premium-quality grapes. This position plays a key part in maintaining the estate’s reputation for excellence through innovation, sustainability, and operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with the Vineyard & Estate Manager across all vineyard operations, with a clear progression towards taking full responsibility for the role.
- Provide strategic oversight of all vineyard activities, ensuring best-in-class viticultural practices and consistent delivery of premium-quality grapes.
- Lead and manage vineyard teams and contractors, driving performance, safety and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with the winemaking team to align vineyard strategy with wine style and quality objectives.
- Maintain oversight of budgets, equipment, infrastructure, and regulatory compliance.
- Champion innovation and sustainability initiatives to support long-term vineyard performance and quality.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Viticulture, Oenology, Agricultural Science or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in vineyard management or senior viticulture roles, ideally within a premium wine production environment.
- Strong knowledge of South African viticultural practices, soils and climates, with experience in the Winelands.
- Exposure to, or experience with, organic and biodynamic farming practices
- Proven leadership capability with experience managing permanent teams, seasonal labour and contractors.
