Role

Description:

This is a full-time, on-site Bookseller role based in Franschhoek. The Bookseller will assist customers on the shop floor, recommend titles based on their interests, and provide information on new releases and promotions. Daily tasks include shelving and organizing stock, creating attractive displays, processing sales at the point of sale, handling special orders, and maintaining a tidy, inviting store environment.

The role also involves responding to customer queries in person, by phone or email, supporting store events such as author signings or book clubs, and working closely with the team to meet sales and service goals. Flexibility to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, is required.

Qualifications

  • Strong bookselling and general sales skills, with the ability to match titles to customer interests and drive store revenue.
  • Proven customer service and customer satisfaction focus, with a friendly, patient, and solution-oriented approach.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for engaging with diverse customers and collaborating with team members.
  • A genuine interest in books, reading across multiple genres, and staying informed about new releases and trends.
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale (POS) proficiency, with attention to detail in handling transactions and stock.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move boxes of books, and maintain store presentation standards.
  • Previous retail or bookstore experience is an advantage but not strictly required; willingness to learn is essential.
  • Matric or equivalent educational qualification preferred.
