The Agronomist position is a critical, junior role with a primary outward focus, with customer service and support at its core. The role will also require the person to do production trials and research projects to aid the continued improvement and development of activities and techniques as well as genetics supplied to the customer.
Allesbeste is a leader in the South African avocado industry, providing comprehensive services and products throughout the avocado production cycle and throughout the value chain. Operating from Tzaneen, Limpopo, we aim to support our Nursery and Intellectual Property customers with after sales support and integrated agronomy consultation.
Purpose:To provide technical support to the nursery and orchard operations under the direction of the General Manager. The position bridges on-farm operations and external client support by assisting with technical advice, farm visits, data collection The role is ideal for a young agricultural graduate with strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn under mentorship.
Key ResponsibilitiesFarmer and Client Support
- Visit client farms to monitor tree performance, diagnose issues, and provide basic agronomic guidance.
- Assist with irrigation scheduling, nutrition plans, and pest/disease monitoring.
- Record and report all visits with photos, data, and recommendations.
- Represent the company professionally when interacting with farmers and industry partners.
- Maintain accurate records of inputs, outputs, and farm visits.
- Prepare reports, Excel/Google Sheets data summaries, and assist with presentations or grower feedback.
- Coordinate logistics for shipments, trials, and technical demonstrations.
- Assist with grower days, field demos, and research data collection when required.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture / Horticulture.
- Preferably 1–2 years of experience in avocados, fruit crops, or horticulture (internships acceptable).
- Strong technical and practical aptitude (irrigation, nutrition, data collection).
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Self-motivated, honest, and willing to learn directly from the General Manager.
The agronomist will be based in Tzaneen, however will be required to do regular visits to growers within the area. Traveling will also be required from this person on a regular basis to regions such as Natal and the Western and Southern Cape. International travel might be required from time to time
