Plant Health Breeding Technical Trainee

Job Purpose

Bayer is seeking an enthusiastic Technical Trainee who wants to gain practical experience and participate in opportunities to learn from genuine professionals in the field of Plant Health. The Trainee will be part of a dynamic team that supports daily tasks within Plant Breeding, delivering maize germplasm phenotyping for market relevant biotic and abiotic stresses and the deployment of native traits.

In addition, the Trainee will work on relevant projects.

• Support operations of greenhouse, summer, and winter phenotyping nurseries safely, efficiently, and to a high standard to generate high quality data for breeding selection decisions.
• Actively support Plant Pathology laboratory operations (disease diagnosis, pathogen inoculum production) and field operations (pathogen inoculation and rating).
• Collaborate with Seed Production team in seed production and inventory management.
• Get familiar with the usage of digital tools in data collection, databases, and systems for data handling and analysis.
• Adhere to all applicable safety and environmental regulations and procedures to ensure continued compliance with in‑country Health & Safety regulations.

• BSc or MSc in Plant Pathology, Agriculture, Horticulture or Biological Sciences.
• Basic knowledge of plant pathology/mycology and/or genetics.
• Basic knowledge of plant health, plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Proficient in English language – written and spoken.
