About the Role
Our client is seeking a passionate and skilled Horticulturalist to manage and enhance their greenhouse operations in Vereeniging . This role is central to cultivating high-quality produce through advanced horticultural techniques. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant cultivation, from propagation to harvest, ensuring optimal growing conditions, and implementing sustainable practices. This position requires a blend of scientific knowledge, practical experience, and leadership skills, contributing to innovative agricultural solutions within the Gauteng province, with opportunities for remote analysis and planning.
Key Responsibilities- Manage daily operations of greenhouse facilities, including climate control, irrigation, and fertilization systems.
- Oversee plant propagation, growth, and health monitoring, implementing pest and disease management strategies.
- Ensure high standards of crop quality and yield, meeting production targets.
- Conduct research and experiments on new varieties, growing media, and techniques to improve crop performance.
- Manage and train greenhouse staff, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of environmental conditions, plant growth, and production yields.
- Degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial horticulture, with specific experience in greenhouse management.
- Knowledge of hydroponic or soilless growing systems is a plus.
- Understanding of plant physiology, pathology, and integrated pest management (IPM).
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions and implement remote monitoring tools.
