About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Scientist specializing in Synthetic Chemistry to join their dynamic research and development team in Nelspruit . This role is central to the design and synthesis of novel chemical entities for drug discovery programs. You will be responsible for leading complex synthetic projects, optimizing reaction pathways, and contributing expert chemical knowledge to interdisciplinary teams.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in organic synthesis and a passion for driving chemical innovation within the pharmaceutical sector in Mpumalanga .
- Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis routes to generate novel small molecules.
- Optimize reaction conditions and develop robust synthetic procedures for scale-up.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using modern analytical techniques (NMR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC).
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists, biologists, and process chemists to advance drug discovery projects.
- Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and propose innovative solutions.
- Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and results, and contribute to scientific reports.
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
- Proven expertise in designing and executing complex synthetic strategies.
- Proficiency with a wide range of modern organic synthesis techniques and purification methods.
- Experience with analytical techniques for compound characterization.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.
