About the Role
Our client seeks a knowledgeable and proactive Agronomist to focus on crop health and nutrition for their farming operations near Vereeniging. This role is critical for ensuring the optimal growth, yield, and quality of crops through expert advice on soil management, fertilization, pest control, and disease prevention. You will work closely with farm managers and field staff, conducting field assessments, analyzing soil and plant tissue samples, and developing tailored crop management plans.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background in agronomy and a practical understanding of farming challenges in the region.
- Conduct detailed field assessments to evaluate crop health, soil conditions, and potential issues.
- Analyze soil and plant tissue samples to diagnose nutrient deficiencies or toxicities and recommend appropriate amendments.
- Develop and implement comprehensive fertilization programs tailored to specific crops and soil types.
- Advise on integrated pest and disease management (IPM) strategies to minimize crop loss.
- Provide recommendations on planting density, crop rotation, and other agronomic practices to optimize yield.
- Stay updated on the latest research and advancements in agronomy and agricultural technology.
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Science, or a related agricultural field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an agronomist or in a similar crop management role.
- Strong knowledge of plant physiology, soil chemistry, and crop diseases.
- Experience with soil sampling techniques and interpreting laboratory results.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively advise farmers and staff.
